Soak up culture on Cannery Row
Overlooking Monterey Bay and once (fittingly) known as Ocean Avenue, Cannery Row was an international hub for sardine canning for the first half of the 20th century. This supremely walkable waterfront thoroughfare earned its current name and its fame in 1959 from the John Steinbeck novel Cannery Row. With the last cannery closing its doors in 1973, over the last 50+ years, Cannery Row has gained a reputation as a must-visit attraction along Monterey Bay. The street’s most famous tenant is the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium, but the former canneries are also inhabited by artist studios and galleries, restaurants and tasting rooms, shops, attractions, and more, all alongside stunning views of the Pacific. Only a 5-minute drive from Kimpton Mirador, an afternoon at Cannery Row is the perfect local adventure.
